Spaniards spent over €30bn on gambling services

This report is gathered from three major blocs, according to their type of Management:

- Regional gaming, managed by private companies with prior authorization from the Autonomous Communities (casinos, bingo, gaming machines, lotteries, sweepstakes and combinations random).
- Those of other state management entrusted to the entity Public Lotteries and Gambling business of the state (sp. LAE: Loterías y Apuestas del Estado) relating to lotteries, football pools and Primitives in its different forms.

- Others managed under special authorization by the National Organization of Blind Spaniards (ONCE).

There are many other games developed in local areas heavily restricted, where bets are accepted at specified times of the year and others of a minority as practiced in the gables or dog tracks, which are not included in this study for lack of sufficient information, but for those who can assert that its amount he economy is very limited and almost negligible compared to the previous ones.

Spanish betting & gambling by the numbers

Spaniards spent over €30bn on gambling services in 2007. Gaming machines were the key drivers of the 4 percent year-on-year growth, as traditional bingo games continued their decline.The total of €30.1bn in Spanish gambling expenditure represented a 4.1 percent on the previous year, while ross gaming revenues of €9.85bn for Spain’s gambling industry showed a 5.6 percent increase on 2006. The Madrid region continues to be Spain’s most significant gambling market, both in terms of overall spend and gambling spend per capita. Madrid was followed, in order, by Murcia, Valencia and the Balearic Isles.

Private sector rose to a 61 percent share from 59 percent 2006.

The evolution of the Private sector growth with respect to the previous year, 2006 was the following:

- Casinos increased its sales by 3.7%, having been opening a new casino in the Huesca region last July helped to account for a 4 percent rise in the overall number of visitors to Spain’s 42 casinos. Casinos welcomed 3.8m visitors last year as casino turnover grew 3.7 percent to €2.459,62bn .
Total gross gaming revenues of the casino sector is €557m.

- The volume of gaming in bingo, drops 0.89%, 3.63% lower than the year past, despite having 18 fewer rooms in operation. Spanish bingo halls witnessed a 3 percent drop in gross revenues during 2007 falling to €1.36bn from €1.4bn in 2006. Despite this, the 0.8 percent drop in overall bingo expenditure of €3.694,18bn was significantly less than the decline of nearly 4 percent recorded between 2005 and 2006.

- Gaming slots machines category “B” increase their volume of 15.43% stake, up from 1.95% 2006. In despite of its growth by 3,225 last year to surpass the quarter-of-a-million mark, this increase is due to the fact that many of the Autonomous Communities regulate Returns awards in excess of 70% or other, when it was previously set at 75% used in this work because of a lack of accurate information, and coexisting more machines of both types in many region.
